Introducing Your WSOP November Nine 2013

From the vast sea of 6,353 hopefuls that began a once-a-year voyage costing $10,000, just nine survivors remain to vie for riches, fame, and the realization of every poker player's dream--the Main Event bracelet.

These nine are now destined to become this year's most celebrated and scrutinized group of poker players.  They are the nine finalists of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event, otherwise known as the November Nine.

A Look at The 2013 WSOP Main Event Top 20

Poker players from the USA made up the brunt of those who remained in this year’s World Series of Poker Main Event, but a number of other nations were well represented.

Canadian Marc McLaughlin led with the largest number of chips at press time.  He was one of two players from Canada still remaining, the other being Alexander Livingston.  While Brazil had Bruno Kawauti, he is also listed occasionally as coming to us from Canada.

World Series of Poker Final Table to be Determined

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) - As the sun began to set over the Rio casino in Las Vegas, a weary group of card sharks approached the midway point of the last day in the contest for a place at the World Series of Poker's final table.

Fewer than a dozen eliminations stood between the remaining players in the world's biggest no-limit Texas Hold `em competition Monday evening and a ticket for a November finale worth $8.4 million for the winner.

Men in hoodies and sunglasses played amid the blue and red lights of an ESPN set crafted within the Rio hotel-casino off the Strip.

PokerStars Lifelong Ban of Player 'Jama-dharma’ for Buttoning

The world’s largest real money online poker room has banned a player for life after accusing him of a practice known as “buttoning”.

The player, known by the handle of ‘Jama-dharma, is accused of sitting at an empty table and waiting for it to fill up before quitting said table in advance of the big blinds.   “Buttoning” also entails an individual being able to play games for free as they never paid for mandatory antes.

PokerStars had issued a prior written warning to ‘Jama-dharma.

Senate Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Legalized Internet Gambling July 17

A Senate Subcommittee has scheduled a hearing for this coming Wednesday pertaining to the legalization of Internet gambling in the USA.

There will be live streaming of this hearing on the Net.

This news follows the announcement that Texas Congressman Joe Barton, a Republican, has introduced his own bill to legalize online gambling at the federal level.

JC Tran Among Chip Leaders at 2013 WSOP: Glazier Makes Big Move

Big name pro JC Tran was among the top 3 chip leaders early in the evening Sunday as the last woman standing was on the ropes, though we had some good news just for Jackie Glazier as this was going to press.

The WSOP tweeted:

.@JackieGlazier's Main Event hopes still alive as she doubles through Jack Amyx when her JJ bests his AK.

Glazier, though, was near the bottom of the chip count with just 37 left.  And just moments before this went to press, Glazier shot up into the top 25

Dan Bilzerian Loses $3.1 Million in a Single Night Shooting Dice and Playing Poker

Poker pro Dan Bilzerian tweeted that he was “kinda bummed” after losing $3.1 million Saturday night shooting dice and playing poker while visiting Los Angeles for the weekend.

Bilzerian claimed to hate tourneys and, as such, declined playing at this year’s World Series of Poker.

"I'd rather discuss a girls modeling career than play the WSOP," he tweeted last week.

Appeals Court Finds IRS Can’t Tax Some Gambling Winnings

In a ground breaking decision that should make many gamblers living in the USA smile, an Appeals Court has ruled that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) cannot tax types of gambling winnings.  There is, however, an emphasis on the word “living”.

2013 WSOP Getting Down to the Wire: Last Woman Sitting Jackie Glazier

68 players remained at this year’s World Series of Poker Main Event heading into Sunday’s play.  There also remains only one female, that being Australia’s Jackie Glazier, following Annette Obrestad’s elimination late Saturday.

WSOP Main Event Still Standing: Obrestad, JC Tran, Rettenmaier, Glazier

While the World Series of Poker Main Event was dwindling down below 100, most of those remaining are relative unknowns, but a few big name players can be found among the bunch. 

Annette Obrestad - The first ever World Series of Poker Europe winner comes to us from Norway.  She won the 2007 WSOPE at the tender age of 18.  Now over 21, she can participate in World Series of Poker events on US soil.  Obrestad was going strong among the top 40 Saturday night.  Ms. Obrestad represents Lock Poker.

Lock Poker Neteller Payouts Mostly Caught Up: Under 10 Day Payouts for Some

Annette Obrestad Still Going Strong: Doyle Busto

Lock Poker pro and the first ever World Series of Poker Europe winner Annette Obrestad was holding her own at this year’s WSOP Main Event.  She is already in the money with 239 players remaining.

Poker Community Reacts to Joe Barton Bill HR 2666: No Chance Says Some

Texas Republican Representative Joe Barton unveiled his latest bill to legalize online poker within the United States late Thursday. 

HR 2666 would essentially make it easier for states to opt out of federal legislation and initially only permit gambling facilities (casinos, riverboats, race tracks) with at least 500 slots, and cardrooms with at least 175 tables to offer licenses.  Credit cards would also be permitted for online poker play.  Barton’s bill also appears to embrace the Tribal casinos.

Doyle Brunson Continues to Hold His Own at WSOP Main Event

Slipping a few notches to the lower tier of the 70’s in terms of chip counts, the Texas Dolly, Doyle Brunson, was still among the more successful players kicking off Friday’s play of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event.  77 out of 649 ain’t too shabby after all.

666: Joe Barton Online Poker Bill May be Doomed From the Onset

Texas Republican Congressman Joe Barton has introduced his highly anticipated online poker bill, HR2666. It is indeed an appropriate ending set of numbers we at Gambling911.com couldn’t help but notice the irony, a la the “666”.  Previous bills to legalize online gambling in the US have all pretty much gone to Hell.  

Okay, so this one does actually give us some degree of hope.

Nevada Gambling Revenue Up, Zynga Rises

(Associated Press) - The state Gaming Control Board reports Nevada casinos won $897.3 million in May, posting a 1.37 percent increase from the same month a year ago.

The May winnings pushed the fiscal year-to-date total to more than $10 billion, 2.4 percent more than last year.

Taxes collected on the May win totaled $57.5 million, an increase of 10.9 percent.

The Las Vegas Strip posted a 6.4 percent monthly gain over May a year ago and is now 5 percent ahead of 2012.

Casino winnings in Reno jumped 9.8 percent.

Gun Toting Poker Babe Anna Benson on Ex Hubby: ‘Can’t Keep it in His Pants’

The ex-wife of Texas Rangers player Kris Benson, Anna Benson, was arrested and booked Monday morning following an alleged brazen home invasion.

Anna, a poker player who has previously entered World Series of Poker events, reportedly entered Kris’ home dressed entirely in black and wearing a bulletproof vest.  She also pulled a gun from her purse and also carried a metal baton.

In a 911 recording, the former baseball player appears to be calm.

Caesars Shares Up Due to Online Gambling Spinoffs

Caesars Entertainment Corp (CZR) has gained 13 percent to $15.94 Wednesday after announcing it plans to offer about $1.18 billion in stock in its expansive US-based online gambling business.  The company has more than doubled this year.

The company plans to offer a real money platform for its WSOP.com website and last week partnered up with its four Atlantic City properties to begin offering real money Web gambling to residents of New Jersey.

Poker Commentator Anna Benson Gun-Toting Home Invader Says Ex (911 Call)

A poker commentator and model, Anna Benson, has been arrested for an alleged home invasion.

The outspoken ex-wife of former Texas Rangers star Kris Benson reportedly broke into his Georgia home, brandishing a pistol and whacking his computer with it.  Kris made a frantic 911 call at the time of the apparent forced entry.

2013 World Series of Poker Main Event: Greg Merson Watch

Day 2A/B of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event championship was filled with plenty of highlights, disappointments, and dramatic moments.  The day belonged to a number of new names and faces, as well as some superstars who are intimately familiar to everyone who enjoys playing and following the game.

Of the 562 players who survived, perhaps the biggest story of the day was the major move by the defending World Champion, Greg Merson.  He arrived on this day well above the chip average, at 81,650.  By day's end, he bagged up a stack amounting to 275,600.
