Matt Giannetti of the 2011 November Nine Wins WPT Malta

Las Vegas poker pro Matt Giannetti, who is among the 2011 World Series of Poker November Nine, has won the WPT Malta.

Leading up to both events, Giannetti has won just over $361,000.  He has had two 4th place finishes and a 5th place finish with 14 cashes. 

240 players took part in the 2011 WPT Malta.

This is his biggest pay day to date with the $273,200 win.  He is guaranteed to walk off with much more at Novembers WSOP Final.

Vancouver Canucks’ Roberto Luongo Partners with PlayNow.com

Poker players on PlayNow.com now have the opportunity to play against one of the NHL’s top players, Roberto Luongo.

PlayNow.com, BC’s online poker room, has announced a partnership with the Vancouver Canucks’ goaltender.

Luongo becomes a representative for PlayNow.com poker and will appear in new advertisements and a number of player promotions.

Doyle Brunson announced on his Twitter page this past weekend that he will be playing in the upcoming EPT London tournament.

The Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event to be Held in December

Poker’s got a new face:  The Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event is coming and, judging by the popularity of this amazing fighter, this tournament should be a smashing success. 

The event will take place December 7-12, 2011 at the Pan Pacific Hotel’s Asia Poker Sports Club in Malate, Philippines.  The tournament will become an official Asian Poker Tour Accredited Event.

Martin Schleich Wins EPT Barcelona 2011

German poker pro Martin Schleich has won the EPT Barcelona 2011, which this week became Spain’s biggest poker tournament ever.

“I can’t take it in right now,” an exhausted Schleich said after the event.  “I’m very tired and my flight leaves in two hours!! I’m really happy but it’s too early to think about what I’ll do with the money.”

The final cashes were as follows: 

1. Martin Schleich, Germany, €850,000

2. Dragan Kostic, Spain, €532,000

3. Eugene Katchalov, Team PokerStars Pro, Ukraine, €315,000

4. Raul Mestre, Spain, €244,000

Tomeu Gomila Leads EPT Barcelona 2011

24 players remained out of 811 at the EPT Barcelona 2011 Wednesday with Tomeu Gomila of Spain leading the way with 2,547,000 chips. 

Team  Poker Stars Pros Matthias De Meulder and Eugene Katchalov were also doing especially well,both in the top ten. Other familiar names in the Day 4 line-up include Raul Mestre and Tome Moreira.

The European Poker Tour Barcelona this past week became the biggest poker tournament in Spain’s history last week.

Pink-Haired French Poker Pro Guillaume Darcourt Leads EPT Barcelona

You gotta love a guy with pink hair.  French poker pro Guillaume Darcourt was leading this week’s EPT Barcelona Main Event coming into Monday with 195,3000 chips. 

407 players were returning for Day 2 of the €5,300 Main Event tomorrow, which became Spain’s biggest poker tournament on record.  811 players in all competed for the prize, which pays just over US$1 million.
