Mohamed Ali Houssam Wins WPT Marrakech 2011 (Video)

Mohamed Ali Houssam has won the WPT Marrakech 2011. 

Bertrand Grospellier and Jonathan Duhamel were the two most familiar names remaining of the 50 players taking part in the WPT Marrakech final nine, reduced to a 6 player final table for which neither player made the cut. 

Ali Houssam takes home $267,011 with his big win.

Randy Lew Wins 2011 APPT Macau Main Event

Randy 'nanonoko' Lew, 26-year-old member of PokerStars' Team Online, earned his first major live title Sunday, winning the 2011 PokerStars.net APPT Macau Main Event and HKD $3,772,000 in prize money (approx. $480,000 USD).

Lew entered the final table as the short stack and with a little luck, a lot of patience and a sound strategy, he was able to grind out a victory.

APPT Macau Main Event 2011 – 22 Out of 575 Remain

The APPT Macau Main Event 2011 had 22 players remaining during Day 3 as of 11 am EST.  All players from the USA were eliminated, including the most famous of them all, Phil Ivey. 

The winner of this event will receive $3.7 million and some change.

Phil Ivey Out at APPT Macau Main Event 2011

It was down to 304 players at the APPT Macau.  One of those who got sent packing was none other than professional poker phenom Phil Ivey, who made his first public appearance in months.  Ivey was one of over a dozen individuals who represented the now defunct online poker room, Full Tilt Poker.  That company is yet to pay back US players since April 15 and those worldwide since the end of June.

Phil Ivey 71st Biggest Chip Leader at APPT Macau 2011 After Day 1a Conclusion (Video)

All eyes were on Phil Ivey playing at the APPT Macau 2011 after a long absence from the live poker scene.  After Day 1a, Ivey was sitting in 71st place among chip leaders. 

Ivey was caught up in the Full Tilt Poker debacle that has gripped the online poker community since April 15 when that company was forced to exit the US market, has not paid customers and was ultimately shut down in late June.  Two executives of Full Tilt Poker were charged with money laundering while three others are alleged to have engaged in a ponzi scheme.

Anthony Ruberto Wins WPT Jacksonville 2011

Anthony Ruberto has won the World Poker Tour Jacksonville 2011 and the $325,928 that comes with that honor.

Mr. Ruberto lives just a few miles up the street from Gambling911.com Miami Beach headquarters in Hallandale Beach, Florida. 

He also won a seat at the $25,500 WPT World Championship event at Bellagio in the spring of 2012.   He lived most of his life in Massachusetts. 

"But for now, I'm going to go away to an island somewhere," Ruberto, 30, told the Sun Sentinel.

WPT Jacksonville 2011 Final Table Set: Lisa Hamilton Excels, Next Stop Tampa

The final table has been set for WPT Jacksonville 2011 event, which this week became the biggest poker tournament the state of Florida has ever seen.  It is taking place at the Jacksonville Poker Room. 

A big of irony as the individual with the least number of chips is named Darryll Fish.  The term “fish” is used in poker to identify a “weaker” player.

The WPT Jacksonville 2011 has become the largest poker tournament ever held in the state of Florida not hosted at a casino with a generated prize pool of 393 players, a few shorter than that seen at last week’s Punta Cana Poker Classic in the Dominican Republic.

The Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event Set for December 1 thru 6 2011

It’s all set.  The Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event will run from December 1 thru 6, 2011 as part of the Asian Poker Tour.  APT director Lloyd Fontillas revealed the schedule to Marv Dumon of the Examiner on Monday.  

"Manny will be there either playing in the tournament or playing pool. [Currently] the room has 3 pool tables, we have been instructed to leave 1 behind for Manny to play on," said Fontillas.

Raul Mestre Wins International Federation of Poker World Championship and $250K: Beats Victoria Coren

Spaniard Raul Mestre was declared the winner of the International Federation of Poker World Championship and takes home $250,000.  In the end, he went head to head with big name female poker pro Victoria Coren of the United Kingdom. 

The World Championship was the final event of the first ever IFP World Championships that was held in London, UK.   The German team won the first event of the Championships, the Nations Cup.

90 players remained after Saturday’s play with former WPT champion Tommy Vedes leading in the chip count.  Nick Grippo took over the lead.

Meet Demo Kiriopoulos: The New $136K Winner of the Punta Cana Poker Classic (Video)

Demo Kiriopoulosis the new champion Punta Cana Poker Classic champion in the event’s sophomore year.  He is the second Canadian to be crowned.  Demo went head to head with Bodog Poker qualifier Evan Mauer.

The event’s sideline blogger, CrazyJulius, noted:  “After 5 hours and 45 minutes of heads-up play he got all of his chips in holding A 10 and the poker gods were kind enough to give him a 10-K-10 board to take down the last pot of the Punta Cana Poker Classic.

Demo played like a champ and the former champ Peter Cross, came to the rail to congratulate him.

Demo Kirlopoulos Wins 2011 Punta Cana Classic: Canada Takes Crown Again

It was Evan Mauer vs. Demo Kirlopoulos or USA vs. Canada at this year’s Punta Cana Poker Classic following the eliminations of Greg Bastin in 3rd place (from the USA).

The final was decided at almost exactly 1 AM EST.

This matchup lasted for a number of hours after the third elimination was determined.

Demo Kirlopoulos: 5,100,000

Evan Mauer: 3,300,000

Kirlopoulos is one happy camper, having ultimately won the tournament, leaving with $136,949 and surviving a field of 415.

Four Remain at 2011 Punta Cana Poker Classic

Just prior to 7:30 pm local time, the 2011 Punta Cana Poker Classic bid farewell to two more players, leaving three to battle it out after the extended 1.5 hour dinner break.

The 4th place prize pays $33,615.  The third place prize will pay $54,779, 2nd pays $82,791 and 1st place pays an amazing $136,949.  That is close to three times as much as last year’s 1st place prize. 

Gone are Jose Barria (6) and Engelberth Varela (5).

Jose De La Guardia, Bill Wellman Out of Punta Cana Poker Classic (Video)

Two successful poker players have been eliminated from the 2011 Punta Cana Poker Classic final table with the field down to 7 by 6:30 pm local time Sunday.

Jose De La Guardia and William Wellmen were both eliminated.

Wellman took 1st place back in January at the Tunica World Series of Poker Circuit Event No Limit Hold’em.

Punta Cana Poker Classic Final Table Kicks Off Late: Jessica Bedoya Out (Video)

The 2011 Punta Cana Poker Classic Final got under way just before 4 pm local time (one hour before Eastern), almost an hour behind schedule.

The Second Chance Tournament, which attracted more than last year’s main event with 215 participants, got under way a little earlier. 

Jessica Bedoya busted at 4 pm EST.  She was the first to go, thus eliminating the chance of a female winning this year’s event.  Nevertheless, congratulations go out to Ms. Bedova, who recently finished 3rd at this year’s LAPT Columbia.

After a great run, Cuban poker player Jessica Perez has been knocked out of the Punta Cana Poker Classic 2011 in 11th place.  Only one other female remained as the Final table was to be determined.

Final Table to be Determined Shortly at 2011 Punta Cana Poker Classic

Just before 4:30 pm Eastern Standard Time, the Punta Cana Poker Classic player pool, which started off with 415, had dwindled down to just 16 and players were dropping like flies.

BetDSI.com Poker qualifier Bill Wellman (pictured) was leading the pack with just shy of one million chips. 

Two females remain among the final 16, both of whom are named Jessica.

Punta Cana Classic 2011 Bubble Boy Is….

The poor sap who was on the bubble managed to get eliminated just before making it into the cashout category of 50 players Thursday evening.

Jose Luis Ruiz is our bubble boy.  Jose Luis min-raise to 15,000, the small blinds moves out of the way and Jared Pacifie comes over the top, Jared made it to around 120,000 and put Jose’s life at risk. Jose thinks for a few minutes and decided to make the call.

Sadly, the three big name Bodog Poker female pros, Tatjana Pasalic, Amanda Leatherman and Evelyn Ng all busted out of the 2011 Punta Cana Poker Classic before making the top 50 in-the-money.

At approximately 10:45 pm local time Thursday evening, the 51st player was eliminated from this year’s Punta Cana Poker Classic.  He goes home with….well….nothing.
