Poker Players Call for Boycott The Venetian Hotel, Casino and Other Sheldon Adelson Properties
Following word last week that Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman Sheldon Adelson announced he is opposed to current legislation that would allow for regulated online poker in the United States, some in the poker playing community have called for an all-out boycott of Adelson’s casino properties, including the famed Venetian on the Las Vegas Strip.
"Since Sheldon Adelson is lobbying against Internet poker, I will no longer play at The Venetian poker room," a player wrote on the TwoPlusTwo.com message board. "I suggest if you care about the issue, that you also boycott the room."
James Dempsey Wins 2011 World Poker Tour Five Diamond at Bellagio
James Dempsey has won the 2011 World Poker Tour Five Diamond at the Bellagio Resort. Dempsey outlasted 413 other players to capture the $821,612 first place prize.
He is now up over $1.5 million in live tournaments. His previous big wins included 1st place at the 41st World Series of Poker 2010 Event 9 – WSOP Pot Limit Hold’em, where he cashed out $197,470, and the 41st WSOP 2010 Event #25 – Omaha Hi/Lo Championship 8 or Better with a 2nd place finish but biggest cashout leading into this past week at $301,790.
French Gambler Sues Government Over Poker Sites: Defendant in MGM Suit Uses Condom Defense
A French gambler has sued the Government claiming it failed to prevent him from accessing online poker sites in that country.
The 37-year-old from the city of Reims registered with the interior ministry last year to be voluntarily banned from casinos and online gambling sites, but was still able to access them, lawyer Emmanuel Ludot told AFP on Monday.
Romney Flip Flops on 10K Bet
US Presidential candidate Mitt Romney stirred up controversy Saturday evening during a nationally televised GOP debate by offering to bet fellow candidate Rick Perry $10,000 over his assertion that the former Massachusetts Governor had broadly supported requiring individuals to have health insurance.
“I’ll bet you 10,000 bucks,” Romney said, denying Perry’s claims.
Perry replied, “I’m not in the betting business.”
By late Sunday, Romney tried to laugh off the bet.

Martin Finger Wins EPT Prague 2011
Germany has scored yet another major poker victory tonight with PokerStars qualifier Martin Finger taking down the €5,3000 EPT Prague Main Event for €720,000. He joins a growing roster of German speakers who have walked away with EPT trophies this season – Ronny Kaiser (from Switzerland) won the season’s first event in Tallinn, Martin Schleich won EPT Barcelona and Benny Spindler won EPT London.
Ontario Gets On Board Online Gambling Bandwagon
The Canadian province of Ontario has announced plans to allow legalized online gambling.
Government officials believe that the industry could bring in $100 million over a five year period.
Other provinces like British Columbia already allow Internet gambling for its residence via the Lottery.
“We want to . . . get this right the first time,” said lottery spokesman Tony Bitonti.

Patrick Renkers Takes Massive Chip Lead at EPT Prague 2011
Dutch PokerStars player Patrick Renkers has a massive chip lead going into Day 4 of EPT Prague - with 31 players left. He has 2,423,000 while German PokerStars qualifier Martin Finger in second place has about half that: 1,289,000. Team PokerStars Pros Jude Ainsworth and Juan Manuel Pastor are also still in contention for the €775,000 first prize.
A total of 722 players from 50 countries competed at EPT Prague this season making it the biggest poker tournament held in the Czech Republlc. The total prize pool is €3,501,700; 04 places are being paid.
Zynga Introduces Texas Hold’Em Poker Game for Google TV App
The world’s largest online poker company, Zynga, has released its uber popular Texas Hold’em poker game as a Google TV app. It is the first set-top box platform to feature the game, which currently has almost 30 million active monthly users across various platforms, including Yahoo, Google+ and iOS.
Google recently updates its TV platform with support for the Android market.
The new Google TV version is being advertised as “especially optimized for playing poker from the comfort of your own couch,” and easily controllable with the Google TV remote, Zynga said.
Apple No Appetite For Texas Hold’em App
Apple has pulled its Texas Hold’em app from the Apple OS Store this week.
Apple’s only official iOS game, “Texas Hold’em” seemingly received little attention from the company with lack of additional development since debuting in 2008.
The “play money” app enjoyed some degree of popularity but has since been crushed by the likes of Zynga.
Only Two Customers Follow Through With Account Closures at Bodog Following Controversy
A public outcry from the online poker community regarding Bodog Poker’s implementation of “anonymous software” has resulted in all but two customers actually closing their accounts, according to the CalvinAyre.com website. Ayre is the founder of Bodog Poker.

Australian poker pro Oliver Speidel has won the Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event 2011 as part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT). He takes home $50,866 as a result. The P50,000 (US$1,155) buy-in poker tournament took place from December 1st to 6th at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Manila.

AGCC Commissions Independent Review Into Handling of Full Tilt Poker Debacle
The Alderney Gaming Control Commission (AGCC) has come under intense scrutiny for its handling of the Full Tilt Poker matter, which culminated in a suspension of the one time second largest online poker firm’s license.
The AGCC ordered all media outlets blocked from negotiations during the arduous affair, as such, leading to a lack of transparency.
Obama Won’t Sign Tax Extension Bill With Attachments
Congressman Joe Barton of Texas said on Monday he is okay with his bill to legalize online poker being attached to other pertinent upcoming legislation. President Obama says it won’t happen with the most likely bill to pass this session, the payroll tax extension cut.
President Obama on Wednesday pledged to reject any efforts to tie a payroll tax cut extension to the controversial Keystone XL Oil Pipeline -- or any other "extraneous" issue.
Another Russian Enjoying Success at EPT Prague 2011
PokerStars.net Russian Poker Series Kyiv champion Garri Tevosov is chip leader going into Day 3 of EPT Prague with 764,000. Tevosov took the RPS Kyiv title and $180,087 first prize back in March.
A total of 136 players are through to Day 3 of EPT Prague out of the 407 who began the day. German PokerStars qualfiier Martin Finger is currently second with 612,600. WSOP Circuit Events at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City 2011 Huge Success Early On
The numbers don’t lie and the WSOP Circuit Events at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City for 2011 have had another great showing. Event One numbers were off a bit from last year’s 1250 players, however, Event Two was up by approximately the difference.
The next three events that followed drew big, if not spectacular, fields and some decent prize pools, the Atlantic City Weekly noted.
It’s Official: Sheldon Adelson Now Opposes Online Poker
The Las Vegas Review-Journal confirmed Wednesday morning that Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman Sheldon Adelson will no longer support legalized online poker at the federal level.
American Gaming Association President Frank Fahrenkopf Jr., confirmed in an email this morning that Adelson visited the lobbying organization's offices Monday, that paper noted.
