Oliver Speidel Wins Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event 2011

Australian poker pro Oliver Speidel has won the Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event 2011 as part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT).   He takes home $50,866 as a result.  The P50,000 (US$1,155) buy-in poker tournament took place from December 1st to 6th at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Manila.

AGCC Commissions Independent Review Into Handling of Full Tilt Poker Debacle

The Alderney Gaming Control Commission (AGCC) has come under intense scrutiny for its handling of the Full Tilt Poker matter, which culminated in a suspension of the one time second largest online poker firm’s license.

Obama Won’t Sign Tax Extension Bill With Attachments

Congressman Joe Barton of Texas said on Monday he is okay with his bill to legalize online poker being attached to other pertinent upcoming legislation.  President Obama says it won’t happen with the most likely bill to pass this session, the payroll tax extension cut.

President Obama on Wednesday pledged to reject any efforts to tie a payroll tax cut extension to the controversial Keystone XL Oil Pipeline -- or any other "extraneous" issue.

Another Russian Enjoying Success at EPT Prague 2011

PokerStars.net Russian Poker Series Kyiv champion Garri Tevosov is chip leader going into Day 3 of EPT Prague with 764,000. Tevosov took the RPS Kyiv title and $180,087 first prize back in March.

A total of 136 players are through to Day 3 of EPT Prague out of the 407 who began the day. German PokerStars qualfiier Martin Finger is currently second with 612,600. Five members of Team PokerStars Pro are also still in: Jude Ainsworth, Liv Boeree, Juan Manuel Pastor, 
Dag Palovic and Johnny Lodden.

WSOP Circuit Events at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City 2011 Huge Success Early On

The numbers don’t lie and the WSOP Circuit Events at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City for 2011 have had another great showing.  Event One numbers were off a bit from last year’s 1250 players, however, Event Two was up by approximately the difference. 

The next three events that followed drew big, if not spectacular, fields and some decent prize pools, the Atlantic City Weekly noted.

It’s Official: Sheldon Adelson Now Opposes Online Poker

The Las Vegas Review-Journal confirmed Wednesday morning that Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman Sheldon Adelson will no longer support legalized online poker at the federal level. 

American Gaming Association President Frank Fahrenkopf Jr., confirmed in an email this morning that Adelson visited the lobbying organization's offices Monday, that paper noted

Is Adelson Now Opposing Online Poker?

It appears as if Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson has decided to do an about face when it comes to online poker legalization in the US.

Jon Ralston of the Las Vegas Sun reported late Tuesday night that Adelson suddenly has become “morally opposed” to online poker after being at the forefront of the push to get the industry legalized in the US over the past few years.

Upon Further Review, Waters May Not Be Against Online Gambling

The gambling Waters may not be as turbulent as originally feared.

California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, who twice voted to make it illegal to use credit cards to fund online gambling, now says she would vote differently if the issue arises again in Congress.

Russian Andrey Pateychuk Wins World Poker Tour Prague Main Event 2011

Russian poker player Andrev Pateychuk has won the 2011 World Poker Tour Prague and the $630,263 that comes with that honor. 

Pateychuk’s live tournament earnings to date were just over $1.1 million prior to this week’s win. 

He is currently on a roll, having won the 2011 PokerStars EPT San Remo in October.

568 players creating a prize pool of €1,753,200.

Group Pushing Online Poker: “It Won’t Hurt Lottery”

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) - A casino-backed group pushing for federal legislation to make online poker explicitly legal says regulating online card play nationwide won't hurt state lotteries.

Fair Play USA planned to release an analysis on Tuesday that shows no correlation between spikes and dips in the online poker market with play in state lotteries.

The analysis is in response to a report from a rival group that wants state lotteries to be responsible for regulating and taxing Internet gambling if it's ever legalized.

Report: Bodog Anonymous Security Not So Anonymous (Video)

Just days after a report surfaced on Gambling911.com that organizers in Macau were looking to hold the richest poker tournament ever, with a $100 million prize pool, World Series of Poker officials on Monday announced that 22 individuals have committed to putting up $1 million each.  At 22 players, the top prize is $8.89 million.

6-Day Online Poker Tournament ACROSS a Massive Success

The first ever 6-day online poker tournament ACROSS is being heralded as a huge success by the folks who hosted this event,  America’s Card Room.  And they have the numbers to prove it. 

ACROSS stands for America’s Card Room Online Super Series and the event attracted a rather substantial proportion of US card players. In all, $172,427.00 in total prize pool money was paid out, cracking the $150,000 figure that had been guaranteed.

Bachus Proposes “Blind Trust” After Insider Stock Trading Expose

Following a segment on the CBS news magazine “60 Minutes” claiming that Alabama Republican Congressman Spencer Bachus engaged in “insider stock trading” during the height of the financial crisis, Bachus himself has now proposed legislation that would require all members of Congress to place all their stocks, bonds and other securities into a blind trust that would be managed without their consent as long as they are members.

Five Casino Operators Apply for Licenses to Operate Online Poker Sites in Nevada

Five casino companies have reportedly applied for licenses to operate online poker rooms from the state of Nevada.  The state gaming board anticipates licenses to be issued as early as February.

Could Online Poker be on the Agenda as Part of Harry Reid’s Payroll Tax Cut Proposal

With Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid preparing to introduce a proposal Monday as a compromise to extend a popular payroll tax cut, the poker community had its ears perk up, if only for a brief moment. 

Reid, who represents the gambling state of Nevada and its casino interests, is reportedly attempting to push through a measure that would legalize online poker as a means of reducing the deficit, creating jobs, and, most importantly, generating millions (if not billions) of dollars in taxable income.

One of India’s hottest models, Poonam Pandey, may be coming to an Android in the US as part of a proposed strip poker game.

Ms. Pandey revealed:  "Yes, I have signed a contract with an American company. It is like the famous Teen Patti game. They will first show my video and when the game starts. As the player starts clearing various levels of the game, I will start stripping. I don't mind stripping, but to what stage I will be doing it, I can't say that now.

Iowa Says Online Gambling Will Take in At Least $13 Million for State

Iowa is betting online gambling will help boost that state’s economy.  The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will permit a debate by lawmakers next year to determine whether online gambling should be legalized within Iowa’s borders.

March Trial Likely in Connection With Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars “Black Friday” Case

(Associated Press) - NEW YORK — Two men charged in a case that shut down U.S. operations for three Internet poker companies are likely to go on trial in March, a judge told lawyers Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan listened to arguments that included the question of whether poker can be considered gambling before telling the attorneys for former bank executive John Campos and co-defendant Chad Elie that a March 12 trial was almost certain.

 “I think it’s extraordinarily unlikely that the entire indictment will be dismissed,” Kaplan said.

CNN Puts More Pressure on Bachus, Pelosi Regarding Insider Trading and Congress

Following a “60 Minutes” report, CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Thursday night made insider trading and Congress his top story of the evening.  The “violators” were none other than former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, current House Speaker John Boehner and Alabama Republican Congressman Spencer Bachus.  Mr. Bachus has been one of the biggest advocates for online gambling prohibition and he is also allegedly one of the biggest of the “violators”.
