Bwin.Party Bidding War Not Over as GVC Considers New Takeover Bid

(Reuters) - Online gambling firm GVC Holdings Plc (GVC.L) could make another attempt to buy peer Bwin.party Digital Entertainment (BPTY.L), just days after Bwin accepted a 900 million pound offer from 888 Holdings Plc (888.L).

GVC said on Tuesday it was considering its options regarding Bwin, but there was no certainty it would make a new offer.

Poker Player Killed in Plane Crash: Passenger Seriously Injured

A Canadian poker player was killed Saturday while attempting to take off in his ultralight aircraft when it crashed into a neighbor’s barn.  His passenger was seriously injured. 

Norman Overdijk of Middle River, Victoria County had won $121,952 in live career tournament play.

Bwin.party Sees Shares Skyrocket Friday Following Blockbuster Deal

Shares in Bwin.party Digital Entertainment were up following Friday’s confirmation that 888 Holdings had agreed to buy the stock in a cash and stock deal worth around £898.3m, beating a rival offer from GVC.

The news of the sale was all but certain after the Financial Times and Gambling911.com received notice from key people within the organizations on Thursday afternoon.

Sheldon Adelson Rallies More Support for Anti-Online Gambling Bill

Gambling magnate and GOP mega donor Sheldon Adelson has aligned himself with a few more politicians to support his legislation that would ban most forms of online gambling, including poker, at the federal level.

Adelson’s measure, Restore America’s Wire Act or RAWA for short, was co-authored by South Carolina Republican Senator and US Presidential candidate Lindsey Graham and Utah Republican Representative Jason Chaffetz.

Aaron Paul the Next Hans Solo? He’s Mum at World Series of Poker

World Series of Poker officials announced the payouts for this year’s Main event as a total of 6,420 have entered to create a prize pool of $60,348,000.

The first place prize of $7,680,021 may seem like a lot but it is the lowest since 2005.

Poker Players Continue to be Questioned in Slain Tycoon’s Death

Four poker players who remain suspects in the murder of a wealthy nightclub owner have been brought back for questioning.

The individuals reportedly owed a Bt4-million gambling debt to Thai tycoon Somyot Suthangkool.

The suspect list is not limited to just these poker players, however.  Somyot's office had been handling 10 lawsuits, most of which were drug-related.

Man Once Charged With Possession of 20,000 LSD Hits Wins WSOP Event

The first ever WSOP.com Online Championship has been won by Long Island City, New York resident Anthony Spinella, who long time Gambling911.com readers may recall was arrested back in October 2012 for possession of 20,000 LSD hits with intent to sell.  The arrest occurred in Framingham, Massachusetts. Hopefully Spinella has turned his life around especially now that he has won $197,743.

“It feels good to win this,” Spinella said of the gold bracelet victory.  “I’ve been playing for a long time now and always want to win one, so this really feels great.”

Asian Tycoon Shot Dead Monday: Motive May Have Been Poker Debt

Thai former night-entertainment tycoon Somyot Suthangkool was shot dead Monday night with the motive likely stemming from a Bt4-million gambling debt four poker players owed him.

Other possible motives included his line of work as the owner of a lawyer's office and conflict over the purchase of a plot of land on which Rama IX Cafe was located.
