WSOP Circuit 2012 – Harrah’s Atlantic City (Updates)

The WSOP Circuit Harrah's Atlantic City 2012 Event #2A kicked off Friday with 326 registrants.  Another 400 players entered in Day 1B of this event, thus creating a hefty prizepool and top ROI for the champion of this $365 event.  Players eliminated during the first day of play were permitted to re-enter in Day 1B.  Late registration remains open through five levels, or roughly until 2:45 p.m.

The two starting fields combine Sunday to play to a winner.

Zynga Restructures Agreement With Facebook: Closer to Offering Real Money Poker

The largest social-gaming company, Zynga, depends on the largest social network and vice versa, Facebook, writes Dean Takahashi of Venturebeat.  But both appear to be going their separate ways as the two companies have restructured their contracts whereby Zynga can now begin offering its social gaming platforms to other companies.  Zynga, as such, is one step closer to offering “real money” online gambling including poker.

Full Tilt Poker Executive Director Accused in Ponzi Scheme Settles With DOJ

Rafe Furst, one of three individuals accused of orchestrating an elaborate ponzi scheme while on the Board of Directors of Full Tilt Poker, has settled with US law enforcement and will now surrender his Swiss bank account and pay a $150,000 fine. 

In return the US Government has dropped the civil money laundering penalty of $11,706,323.96.  A portion of those funds are contained within the Swiss bank account.

‘Killing Them Softly’ Gambling Flick With Brad Pitt Opens Friday

The long awaited mob gambling flick “Killing Them Softly” finally opens in theatres Friday.

It’s a film about American crime directed by Andrew Dominik based on the 1974 novel Cogan's Trade by George V. Higgins and stars Pitt along with Ray Liotta and James Gandolfini.

“Killing Them Softly” is about a professional enforcer named Jackie Cogan, who investigates a heist that transpired during a mob-protected poker game.

Poker Players Alliance Hosting Town Hall in Greater Boston Area on December 1st

This Saturday, December 1st, the PPA is hosting a free Town Hall event at the Clarion Inn in the greater Boston area to discuss a number of priority issues facing poker players across the nation and various states. John Pappas, PPA’s executive director, will provide an update on the efforts to license and regulate online poker in the U.S. as well as insight into the Full Tilt repayment process for U.S. players.

French MPs Caught Playing Online Poker During National Assembly

While France has been among the most draconian nations when it comes to allowing online poker sites to operate, don’t tell that to the MPs.

Recently a number of them were photographed playing online poker and reading adult cartoons during France’s National Assembly, according to Sky News. 

There are now calls to scramble wireless signals during sessions.

BlackChip Poker Leaving Merge Gaming Network

As has been rumored in recent weeks, BlackChip Poker, one of the premier Merge Gaming Network brands, will be finding a new home.  That announcement is expected in the coming days.

BlackChip Poker confirmed Wednesday it will not be allowing customers to take part in the hugely popular Poker Maximus III that kicks off November 29.

Reid Kyl Internet Gambling Bill ‘Not Acceptable’ to Tribes in its Current Form

For years, attempts to pass legislation banning Internet gambling at the federal level were stymied by “carve outs” for various other forms of gaming (i.e. the horse racing sector).   For nearly a decade, lobbyists representing the Tribes had been successful in preventing such measures from being signed into law.  Their interests were typically in stark contrast to that of other groups like the horse racing industry.

2012 WPT Montreal Sets New Record

The start of this weekend’s 2012 WPT Montreal set a new record for a tournament with over a $1k buy-in taking place in Canada. 

1173 entrants were recorded during Day 1 of this event with a previous record set earlier this month at the WSOPC Vancouver (1032 entrants).  These figures demonstrate that poker is alive and well in Canada and apparently growing in popularity.

ANZPT Auckland 2012 Final Table Determined

The ANZPT Auckland 2012 Final Table is now set with Geoff Smith of Christchurch, New Zealand leading the way.  The 39-year-old has been playing poker now for the past 6 years after first seeing televised games.

Brock Parker Wins 2012 Borgata Fall Poker Open

Brock Parker has won the 2012 Borgata Fall Poker Open and the $372k cash prize that comes with that honor.

A total of 644 poker players entered the event.

“It was a really good final table,” Parker told the Borgata blog after the event. “A lot of talented players.”

Parker’s life time earnings of just over $1.8 million include two first place finishes at the 2009 World Series of Poker that totaled nearly $800,000.  He won two WSOP bracelets as a result.  Parker has cashed out in 44 events to date.

South Carolina High Court Rules Organized Poker Games Illegal

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Associated Press) - South Carolina's high court says that organized poker games are illegal, even when they happen in a private home.

The state Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that state law prohibits wagering on Texas Hold 'Em, even though it's a game of skill.

During a raid on a home near Charleston in 2006, police seized several thousand dollars in cash and a small amount of marijuana, ticketing about 25 people for illegal gambling.
