‘Fiscal Cliff’ Bill Could Offer Nice Vehicle for Internet Poker Measure

A lot has been made of a potential cybersecurity bill acting as a vehicle in which to attach proposed Internet poker legislation drafted by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican Senator Jon Kyl.  A better option might be so-called “fiscal cliff’ legislation, and with good reason. 

For one, cybersecurity proved a polarizing issue the last time both the House and Senate attempted to pass their respective bills.  There was huge opposition from outside groups worried over the potential negative impact on freedom of speech.

Harry Reid, John Kyl Internet Poker Draft Bill Still Being Written

Responding to criticisms from the Antiguan government that a draft bill for Internet poker proposed by Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican Senator Jon Kyl would leave the tiny Caribbean nation out of the equation, a Reid spokesperson clarified the current status of the measure.

Betfair Slashes Dozens of Jobs: Gets Rid of UK Director

Europe’s biggest betting exchange, Betfair, announced it is laying off 50 employees and will part ways with UK Director Peter Marcus.

Mr. Marcus had previously been recruited by William Hill and was only on the job 14 months.  He will leave his post in the coming days.

CEO Breon Corcoran is looking to shake up the organization and was in the midst of conducting a company strategic review scheduled for conclusion on December 13.

Harry Reid, Dean Heller Mend Relationship: Focus on Internet Poker

After calling out fellow Nevada Senator Republican Dean Heller for failing to muster up enough party votes to pass a proposed Internet poker measure, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has mended his relationship with Heller. 

The two will now work closely to try and pass legislation that would make online poker legal in the United States with their home state acting as the primary licensing hub.  Reid wants the measure passed during the critical Lame Duck session that begins next week and lasts approximately eight weeks.

New Jersey Internet Gambling Law Expected by Month’s End

A bill to make Internet gambling legal in the state of New Jersey was expected to be signed into law as early as month’s end. 

Joe Brennan, Jr., head of the Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA.org) advised Gambling911.com that he anticipates the measure landing on Governor Chris Christie’s desk by the end of November.  Christie is widely expected to sign the legislation into law.  Brennan’s organization is working closely with state officials regarding this bill.

Hanaway Letter Asserts Processing of Online Poker Payments No Violation of UIGEA

Quadjacks.com has confirmed that the Twitter account @BlackFridayChad is indeed Chad Elie, one of nearly a dozen defendants in a massive online poker sting operation back in April 2011 later coined “Black Friday”. 

On Twitter, Elie has been leaking never-before-seen documents related to “Black Friday”.

Elie, who is due to serve a five month stint in prison shortly, refers to himself as a “Poker Player, Poker Activist, Black Friday Defendant, about to serve prison time for processing poker.”  He set up the Twitter account on November 2.

Unibet gross Winnings Revenue amounted to GBP 43.8 (37.8) million for the third quarter of 2012 and GBP 140.3 (109.7) million for the period January to September 2012.

Profit from operations for the third quarter 2012 amounted to GBP 4.5 (8.2) million and GBP 22.6 (26.6) million for the period January to September 2012. Excluding a one off tax payment of GBP 2.6 million, profit from operations for the third quarter 2012 would have been GBP 7.1 million.
