No word yet on the reasons behind the abrupt closure of UK-based Purple Lounge, an online poker room and casino operated by Media Corporation (not to be confused with the Rupert Murdock publishing empire). Customers were not provided with any prior warning as to the shutdown. Players had experienced slow payouts in recent months despite Purple Lounge’s operation within a mostly Web poker-friendly environment. Purple Lounge had not accepted business from US players.

Las Vegas Sands Corp is overseen by billionaire Sheldon Adelson, the man behind GOP Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich’s super PAC.
The deep-pocketed chairman Sheldon said he doesn’t believe the gaming operator’s prospects in Macau and Singapore will flatten out.
“The word plateau, in terms of Asia, is not in our vocabulary,” Adelson said.

A Nevada high court is set to hear arguments in the ongoing saga of poker pro Phil Ivey’s divorce to wife Luciaetta.
In an order filed Wednesday, Chief Justice Nancy Saitta directed the court clerk to schedule this matter for the “next available calendar”.
"Based on our preliminary review of the record and the briefs, we have determined that oral argument would be of assistance in resolving the issues presented by the appeal," according to the order.
