Ivan Sochnikov Leads EPT Prague €50K Super High Roller
Russian player Ivan Soshnikov is leading the 32 players left at the end of Day 1 of the €50 unlimited re-entry Super High Roller. A total of 41 players entered and seven fired off second bullets including Team PokerStars Pro Online’s Isaac Haxton (still in) and WCOOP ME champion Fedor Holz (no 3rd bullet, so far). Soshnikov, 24, who won the €10k High Roller event here last year, was multi-tabling both the €1,100 Eureka Main Event AND the Super High Roller until he was moved in Eureka and couldn’t find his new table.

Eureka 4 Prague Main Event field attracted 1,738 players (including 8 no-shows) and as we denoted before, it smashed previous records.
The field increased by 423 players in comparison to last year's tour stop in the Czech capital, and easily surpassed Vienna's 1,432-entry field. Today's day 1b brought the biggest flight with 1,263 entries including 8 no-shows (to reach a 4-figure number for the very first time in a single day). Altogether, the season 4 counts impressive 3,662 attendants, which is 1,236 more than last in season 3 despite taking off one stop.

Nets Fan, Poker Pro Says Being Tossed From Game Like ‘Being Abducted by Aliens’
Nets super fan and a former poker player, Jeffrey Vanchiro (AKA Jeffrey Gamblero), says he is recovering from a humiliating incident last week in which he was physically removed from the Madison Square Garden by security without his prosthetic leg. Vanchiro was accused of being unruly though others who were sitting nearby the super fan dispute these claims, taking to Twitter to defend him. He compared getting tossed from the arena like “being abducted by aliens”

Poker Pro Paul Phua Denies Organized Crime Ties in World Cup Betting Probe
Attorneys for poker pro Paul Phua (real name Wei Seng Phua ) denied he has any links to a Chinese organized criminal syndicate. Phua, a wealthy Malaysian businessman, and his son Darren Phau were charged this past summer with operating a World Cup betting ring out of a Las Vegas resort. Six others were also charged for their involvement in the alleged scheme.

Betfair Dumps Online Poker in New Jersey: Will Continue to Offer Casino Games
A second online gambling firm in New Jersey has shut down its poker room in so many weeks. Betfair follows UltimatePoker, which pulled out of the state entirely in October. Betfair has vowed to continue offering Internet casino games such as blackjack and slots.
A Betfair representative confirmed the closure of its online poker room to the website USPoker.com Tuesday morning.

HPT Adds Grand Sierra Resort and Casino to 2015 Schedule
Reno, NV - The nationally televised Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) will add a visit to Reno/Tahoe to its 2015 nationwide tour. Grand Sierra Resort and Casino was selected to host the ten-day tournament series kicking off on January 30th. Fraternal Order of Police Write Letter Opposing a Federal Online Gambling Ban
WASHINGTON, D.C. - John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group with more than one million members nationwide, issued the following statement in response to the National Fraternal Order of Police’s letter urging Congress to oppose a Federal ban on Internet gambling. The letter notes that, “a Federal prohibition is irresponsible and will severely hinder our efforts to combat unlawful activity on the Internet.”

Former Liverpool Winger Albert Riera Denies Being Sacked Over Playing Poker
Albert Riera was absent for Udinese's match against Chievo on Nov 23 and reports quickly surfaced that the former Liverpool winger had instead opted to hang out in Slovenia and play poker. He won £3,000 for his second place finish in that game.
The 32-year-old insists it was by 'mutual consent' and for football reasons that the club ultimately sacked him this past week.
